So, as much as I am trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle I still eat out. Life can get busy, we are in town all day or perhaps it is a special night out. So here are my go to places to eat out both local to my town and some chains. Also, tips for avoiding grains and pitfalls while enjoy the nightlife.
My favorite faster type places are
Chipotle (Get the salad, skip beans and rice. LOTS of salsa and avocado = yummo)
Burrito Bandito (Local Mexican place), same idea as Chipotle burrito in a bowl minus all grains and legumes.
Best Little Sand which Shop (A local place) I get my sandwhich made into a salad. The meat there is minimally processed and all the ingredients are fresh. You can do the same thing at Subway but, I would not recommend it. Find a local place to get your Faux-Sammie on!
Some generic and chain ideas
Olive Garden- Shrimp topped fish w/ a side of broccoli. Skip the salad or eat it without dressing but, this main dish is right in line with how I eat.
Hometown Buffet- YES, I do eat here and YES I continue to lose weight. I hit the salad bar hard and heavy then, choose a few meat main dishes along with a veggie. This can be difficult because it does require you to avert your eyes from all the super UNHEALTHY food around you. This is not a regular occurrence and is my least favorite of places on this list.
Panda Express- I get the 2 item combo with veggies instead of rice/chow mien. I usually order the black pepper chicken, kung po chicken or chicken teriyaki. These do contain quite a bit of sugar but, as a splurge without grains and lower calories this is a great choice for me.
When out to eat at any restaurant some tips I follow are.
Meat and Veggie main dish (check your sauces)
Salads (check the toppings)
Breakfast, yep sometimes I order eggs and bacon plus some fruit.
This is my fairly simple ideas and plan I follow when out and about.
I skip fast food entirely and if I get hungry I usually either try to have snacks with me or pick up a low carb option while at Trader Joes.
